A Wildflower Wedding on Rainbow Ave

Kiara & Shayna

At last they broke the glass and walked joyously through a cloud of celebratory bubbles.

Kiara and Shayna’s wedding day was 6 years in the making. They first met in college through friends and their romance blossomed shortly after. Shared interests like travel, nature, and fostering meaningful community became the bedrock of their relationship. Their love continued to grow over the years even when the relationship became long distance. Together they bought their first home and filled it with unique treasures from local estate sales. The home that nourished their love for two years was the perfect place to kick off the beginning of their marriage.

The couple’s quaint colonial home is located on Rainbow Avenue, which is literally the best street to live on if you ask me. Friendly and selfless neighbors surround the couple and many stepped in to make their wedding day possible.

In preparation for their backyard wedding, Shayna and Kiara spent months tending their garden with the hopes of creating a wildflower cottage core vibe. They even painted the shutters, front door, and address numbers a bright shade of lavender to enhance their colorful aesthetic.

Who says home improvement and wedding planning don’t go hand-in-hand?

Around noon, nearly 40 of the couple’s closest family and friends chose their seats, with eclectic options ranging from school house stools to a row of old timey theater chairs. To celebrate Shayna’s Jewish heritage, a handcrafted chuppah made a meaningful location for the exchange of vows. The ceremony was officiated by Shayna’s step father, who knew just how to get the crowd laughing and crying simultaneously. As a nod to another Jewish tradition, Kiara and Shayna selected seven people from their support network to share one of the Seven Blessings. At last they broke the glass and walked joyously through a cloud of celebratory bubbles.

The vibe of Kiara and Shayna’s wedding matched their vibe as a couple: playful and thoughtful. Guests were welcomed with a build-your-own mimosa bar to get the party going. Overhead was a bright August sky and colorful fabric banners that made the space feel fun and homey. Guests had a blast at the temporary tattoo station and adorned themselves with custom designs. Another highlight was the typewriter station where everyone had the chance to write a personal message to the newlyweds. And of course, the laid-back party wouldn’t have been complete without an outdoor photo booth that inspired many quirky group photos.

If you haven’t guessed by now, the color palette was rainbow! I made sure to incorporate Kiara’s favorite (sunflowers) and Shayna’s favorite (blue thistle), and as many other bright colors imaginable. Each centerpiece was arranged in a different thrifted vase on a different brightly patterned tablecloth. A curtain of 100+ individual flowers hung from the chuppah sides and doubled as the perfect photo backdrop. And the guests each got to make their own bouquet to-go!

Being part of Kiara and Shayna’s wedding day was truly so special. Every moment was filled with the love of community who all came together to lend a helping hand. Each quirky and playful detail put a smile on my face and made me feel at home. If their lush garden is anything like their love, they no doubt have a colorful marriage ahead.
